Prof. Ingrid Gogolin
(University of Hamburg)

Ingrid Gogolin is a professor in the work area "Intercultural and International Comparative Education" at the University of Hamburg and coordinator of the BMBF research focus "Language Education and Multilingualism". Numerous offices such as the presidency of the European Educational Research Association (EERA) and the World Education Research Association (WERA), memberships in many committees and networks (including the Council for Migration, network "Language, Variation and Migration") and the honorary doctorates awarded to her by the TU Dortmund University and the University of Athens testify to her great national and international reputation as well as her many pioneering publications.
In her research, Ingrid Gogolin focuses on the consequences of linguistic and cultural heterogeneity for development, upbringing and training. Given the fact that multilingualism is part of everyday life in most nations of the world, Ingrid Gogolin is pursuing two key questions: How can it be possible for people living in a community to share a common language of understanding without this being detrimental to multilingualism? And: Which conditions have to be fulfilled so that multilingualism is beneficial for individual and society? As head of numerous projects and coordinator of various research focuses, she has set significant milestones in this regard.
In addition, her numerous international collaborations as well as a long-standing collaboration with Michael Clyne qualify her as the predestined holder of the Michael Clyne Research Professorship.
