Prof. Kees de Bot
(University of Groningen, University of Pannonia)

The internationally renowned linguist Prof. Kees de Bot is the Professor of Applied Linguistics and Vice Dean of the Philosophy faculty at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. His scientific interests in the fields of linguistics, educational sciences, and psychology, and his numerous internationally acclaimed publications, make him one of the most sought-after multilingual researchers currently. He is considered to be one of the discipline's foremost forward-thinkers, who repeatedly brings new perspectives to research and thus drives its innovations. Dr. De Bot became well-known in this field through the application of the Dynamic Systems Theory, an originally mathematical theory about the processes of second-language acquisition. Other focal points of his research include language processing and language loss in multilingual people, the development of multilingualism in old age, and the development and evaluation of multilingual educational programs. In addition, his numerous stays abroad and international collaborations, as well as his longstanding collaboration with Michael Clyne, makes him the predestined holder of the first Michael-Clyne Research Professorship at LMU.
