More about the LMU and their partners

In order to be able to formulate a future-oriented perspectives for the multilingual society, it is important to work on the topic of multilingualism from different angles and to link the methods and results accordingly. This means to approach them from the fields of sociolinguistics (particularly themes such as language vitality, language preservation and language change, linguistic landscapes, language biographies, identity formation etc.), from psycholinguistics (networking of languages, bilingual language productions, language acquisition and attrition etc.), from text linguistics, and conversation analysis (writing in two languages, influence of genres, code-switching etc., multilingualism in the new media, etc.). Lastly, it is important to consider this approach from language contact research (Systems linguistic aspects and language typology).
All of these aspects of multilingual research are covered in thematic networks. In addition to networking these different subject areas, new approaches are also going to be introduced into multilingualism research: multilingualism in new media, as well as innovative digital representations of multilingualism. For example, this can be seen through georeferencing in app-based applications. It should be emphasized in particular that the networking between the individual partners is not only bilateral, which means between Prof. Riehl and the respective colleagues, but also among these colleagues who already cooperate with each other.
