To understand that multilingualism is an opportunity and not a deficit is one of the goals of promoting multilingual reading. The International Research Center for Multilingualism strives to fulfill this goal with the use of seminars for parents to explore multilingualism, as well as offering reading seminars in different languages for learners. Multilingual texts and language comparisons bolsters the linguistic skills of children and adolescents growing up in bilingual or multilingual environments. While learners are developing their multilingual education, they need systematic and repetitive introduction to texts in the form of reading aloud and reading to themselves.

The Munich City Library provides a broad range of media. This includes multilingual picture books and children's books in 14 different languages. Visitors can find this variety in many city libraries around Munich. Using the “topic search” tool on the online catalogue, you can search specifically for books in different languages to see which library they are offered in, and, if you wish, order them to a library of your choice.
A selection of English-language eBooks for children and young adults can also be borrowed from the Munich City Library.

More information on the multilingual children's eBooks can be found through the Munich City Library system.

The Munich City Library also provides strategies and tips in 17 languages for reading together with children.
